Tribal government Structure
The Citizens of the Western Cherokee Nation enjoy a constitutionally
mandated and structured government with a built in system of
checks and balances and,
much like the United States has three distinct and separate branches of
government. The three branches are:
- The Executive, consisting of the Principal Chief, the Deputy
Chief,
Treasurer, Administrative Secretary and those persons appointed
by the Chief with duties delegated by the Chief.
- The Judaical, consisting of all sitting members of the Elders
Board
- The Legislative, consisting of the tribal council
Various departments, divisions, committees and sanctioned cooperating
non
governmental organizations (NGOs) also exist to ensure the smooth
operation of the government. Some examples are:
- Election Board
- Events Committee
- Enrollment Department
- Department of Public Safety
- Department of Family Preservation
- Information Technologies Division
- Office of Emergency Management
- Pow Wow Committee
- Restoration Committee
- Western Cherokee Nation Farmers, Craftsmen and Artisans
Cooperative Association (a NGO)
- WESTERN CHEROKEE (a Missouri non profit corporation)
